I have an IrDA Device "guide" I wrote on Reddit a few years ago when I was really drunk titled Everything You Might Want to Know (and more...) About IrDA, IrDA Hardware, and How It Pertains to Tamagotchis that I am not happy with now, but it is an ok starting resource if you're looking for an "Explain Like I'm Five" source for IrDA technology, TamaPhones, and difficulties using IrDA on modern Windows.

I didn't know where to put this so it goes here for now. I have scanned some manuals/instruction sheets for virtual pets and they are available on my Google Drive. The root folder has them as uncompressed .PNGs and are VERY large (70-100mb). The compressed folder has them as compressed, but high quality .JPEGs
